Richard Smith

Head Of Corporate Finance

Richard brings more than 25 years of corporate finance experience to Tractus. He is particularly adept at sell-side deal structuring and transactions.

Richard has and continues to work across a range of industries with a particular focus on cross-border transactions and bridging the gap between owner-entrepreneurs and corporate, financial and institutional investors. He supports both the buy and sell side of deals and most of his recent M&A projects involve family-run or owner-operated businesses.

Prior to joining Tractus, Richard was a CFO of dwp, a multinational architecture and interior design firm with over 400 employees in 9 countries across Asia and the Middle East where he had both operational responsibilities as well as the mandate of growing the business through acquisition. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and Head of the Audit Committee for the company.

Richard has worked in corporate finance roles with small, medium, and large international firms. He has extensive experience in M&A, fundraising, pre-IPO preparation and planning, project development, corporate governance and debt restructuring projects. He previously worked for Citibank, a Thai-based boutique investment bank, and founded and ran his own corporate financial advisory services business.

Richard holds a BA in Economics from the College of Wooster, and an MBA and an MA in Asian Studies from the University of Michigan.

Richard speaks regularly at conferences on business valuations, M&A, and cross-border investment in Asia. He has been a regular guest lecturer at the Masters in Marketing Program at Thammasat University in Thailand and served as an advisor and judge in the Asia Venture Challenge business plan competition for MBA students throughout the region.

He is an active member of The Rotary Club of Bangkok South and for many years served as both commissioner and coach of the Bangkok Junior Basketball League. Richard enjoys fly fishing, cycling, reading, and music in his spare time.
